Always make sure you have an up to date Virus program and that you run a complete Virus Scan at least once a week.

You should defrag your hard drives at least once a month to help speed up your computer.

Make sure you have your tower/desktop located in an area with plenty of ventilation. Heat is a huge enemy to computers.

Never open an attachment sent to you via email without first scanning it for a virus.

To prevent annoying pop-ups from appearing when you load sites; try using a pop-up blocker such as the one that comes with the google toolbar or Internet Explorer 7.

If you do get a pop-up window while surfing the net; rather than using the red "x" in the upper righthand corner of the window to close it, try right-clicking on the windows item in your taskbar and selecting close. This will help reduce the likelyhood of malicious code being executed on your pc.
